WELCOME TO THE SCHOOL LIBRARY
We are so lucky to have such a beautiful library here at OLGC.
Did you know we have more than 14,000 books on our shelves?
Here is some useful information about the library.
When your child's teacher asks that they read a certain book or type of book, our collection can save you a trip to the public library. The books on our shelves are chosen with our students needs in mind so we can almost always find the right book for them.
Kindergarten and first grade take their books home in a plastic book bag. This bag keeps the book clean and helps those at home find it easily in time for the library visit. The student's name, room number and library day is on the bag. This information should help everyone get their books back on time.
Books are generally checked out for one week. In fact some books have 7 Day Loan stickers on the cover and do not get renewed. They are titles that have high circulation rates. Most books, however, can be renewed until the student has finished with them.
Students may take one book each week but if they have a special assignment, when a teacher has requested they get a certain type of book, they can also choose another book for fun.
We have had some difficulty in getting some students to return their books on time, please be aware of your child's library day and help them to remember to bring them back. If they forget their book they can ALWAYS renew the book during library time, they just have to let me know. If they lose a book we ask that you replace it.
We have the Accelerated Reader self- testing program on the computers in the library. Your student can read any of approximately 2,500 titles that have short quizzes on file. They do not count for grades but it's a great way for the students to see how well they understand a book. I ask that they complete 4 of these quizzes during the school year.
We gladly accept donations of all kinds of books, not just children's titles.
This is a great way for us to help our library grow.
